WHAT IS A MUDRA?  A "mudra" is a positioning of the hands intended to direct or retain energy flow and to connect parts of the body to the brain as life force energy flows through the body. Different mudras cultivate different energies. They are universal and can be practiced almost anywhere and anytime.

PADMA (LOTUS) MUDRA: Padma (or Lotus) mudra connects us to our fourth chakra (or anāhata in Sanskrit), which resides in and around our heart. The mudra is designed to tap into the energetic qualities of the heart including compassion, forgiveness, affection and loving kindness. Whether you incorporate lotus mudra into your meditation or into your asana practice, you will awaken the energies of the heart and find that with such awareness, anything is possible.

ANAHATA CHAKRA: The Anāhata Chakra is one of the most beautiful and richest Chakras, and invites us to dwell longer in its inexhaustible treasures of delightful feelings and experiences. It is located in the region of the heart, in the centre of the chest, and this is why it is also known as the Heart Centre. And it is not without reason that the heart is regarded as the symbol of love, for the Anāhata Chakra is the seat of love.
